Requesting Recognition From The Commissioners of St. Mary's County

Guidelines

• All requests must be received at least 14 business days before the date needed or the print date. Proclamations presented during Commissioners Meetings require 30 days notice.
• The Public Information Office reserves the right to approve or decline any request and to edit any drafted material for final wording.
• The issuance of proclamations, commendations, or letters of recognition does not indicate or imply a policy endorsement from the Commissioners of St. Mary’s County or St. Mary’s County Government.

Recognition Types

Proclamation

To proclaim a day, week or month in awareness of a cause, issue, or occasion. The intention of a proclamation is to honor, celebrate, or create awareness of an event or significant issue.

Commendation

To commend an individual or a specific achievement such as an anniversary, milestone birthday, Boy Scout Eagle Award, Girl Scout Gold Award, retirement, or a similar achievement.

Letter of recognition

To help organizations celebrate special events held in St. Mary’s County. These typically include business and professional conferences, cultural festivals, non-profit fundraising benefits, and other significant events. Letters of Recognition may also accompany Commendations.

Retirement Award

To recognize employees of St. Mary’s County Government and related agencies upon retirement. An award may be presented to an employee with 10 or more years of service. Retiree may choose to be recognized during available commissioner meetings or have award presented by appropriate Department Director.
