Captain Walter Francis Duke Terminal Building

Feel free to contact the Airport Manager regarding airport compliance requirements, business and lease opportunities, requests for maintenance, status of pending capital projects, arrangements for special events, waiver agreements, scheduled use of facility conference/meeting rooms, status of air passenger service, and any other aviation-related activity. On June 6, 2006 this facility was formally dedicated as the Captain Walter Francis Duke Terminal Building at the St. Mary's County Regional Airport, receiving both a Governor's Citation and Commissioners of St. Mary's County Proclamation.

General aviation activities at St. Mary's County Airport are accommodated by several Tenant Businesses and Organizations located on the airfield:

Aircraft Hangars

Both conventional and T-hangars are available for general aviation aircraft storage at the airport. T-hangars are individually nested structures that are capable of accommodating one (1) aircraft per space. T-hangars are generally capable of accommodating single engine and small twin aircraft only, while larger aircraft are generally stored in conventional hangars. Conventional hangars is a term used to describe large open bay hangars capable of accommodating multiple aircraft in a community setting. Such community hangars are typically owned and operated by an FBO. Conventional hangars are also used to describe corporate hangars where a business may own one or two business aircraft stored in a privately owned hangar.

Currently at St. Mary's County Airport, there are a total of 123 hangars (68 T-hangars, 28 box hangars, and 26 large box corporate/community hangars). At present, all T-hangars and conventional hangars are at their maximum occupancy with waiting lists for space when it becomes available.

Aprons and Tie-Downs

Another method of aircraft storage is aircraft tie-downs. Currently, the Airport utilizes the general aviation aprons as well as some grass areas in the vicinity of the T-hangars for aircraft tie-downs. There are a total of seventy-five (75) paved and three (3) grass tie-down locations available for based and transient aircraft. Four (4) transient paved tie-down spaces are available with an average occupancy rate for all other paved spaces of 90%. Average occupancy rate for grass tie-downs is 100%. The existing apron space totals over 37,000 square yards and is divided into four primary areas; the T-Hangar ramp, the County Hangar ramp, the FBO/State Police upper ramp, and Terminal lower ramp. Fueling Facilities & Fire Protection

There are currently three(3) fuel tanks at St. Mary's County Airport. The largest tank, a 10,000 gallon avgas (100 LL) underground tank, is owned by the County and leased to the FBO, RCS Services. In addition, the FBO owns two(2) above ground fuel tanks; one 2,000 gallon avgas tank and one 4,000 gallon Jet-A tank. The FBO processes approximately 100,000 gallons of fuel sales annually. The agreements under which the airport has been acquired and developed with Federal assistance do not specifically impose a responsibility to provide rescue or fire-fighting capabilities. However, Fire Protection is provided by the local fire department. In the event of an emergency, services would initially be provided by the Bay District and Hollywood fire departments.
